Our controller, Teresa Weems, and her husband recently enjoyed a quick weekend getaway to a spot on the map which probably wouldn't normally come to mind when thinking vacation: Omaha. What makes Omaha a great getaway?
Well, from the Kansas City area, it is a reasonable four-hour drive. Just up I-29 to St. Joseph, West on 36, then up 75 (Please note these directions are the detour route while I-29 is closed at Rockport). On your way you'll get to see a rather large windmill farm among other things. Once in the city, there are plenty of great hotels. Teresa recommends the Best Western Plus Kelly Inn which features a great pool area for family fun and connected restaurant.
It was easy to tell what parts of the trip Teresa enjoyed the most. She and her husband enjoyed visiting the Strategic Air & Space Museum which features various traveling exhibits and six permanent exhibits including Doolittle's Tokyo Raiders, the 9th Air Force and Linebacker II. They also enjoy visiting the Henry Doorly Zoo which features an underwater walkway at the aquarium, a wildlife safari park and the famous desert dome area. The Old Market District of the city was also a highlight of their trip.
If you'd like to plan an Omaha getaway, visiting www.visitomaha.com is a great resource for trip planning and city information.
